Here’s your Monday Mission for Ephesians 5:21-6:9.

Accountability: Your challenge for this week is to extend forgiveness and speak gratitude.

Passage: Ephesians 5:21-6:9

Big Idea: Following Jesus impacts every relationship and aspect of our normal lives.

Read: Read the whole passage over a meal. Try reading it in the ESV/NIV and also in the Message.

Discuss: What do you think it means to “submit to one another out of reverence for Christ”?

Discuss: What relationships does Paul touch on in the passage? What does he say about them? Do any of Paul’s commands here feel too hard to do?

Discuss: Kids, how are you doing with with obeying your parents? Seriously, take a moment and think about it for a minute. Are there areas that you could improve upon? Fathers (moms you’re off the hook), how are you doing at not “provoking” your children? What do you think that even means? Are you intentionally teaching them about the Lord?

Activity: If you’re a parent, read through 6:5-9 with your kids and help them think about this in terms of student/teacher. Have them create a comic or picture to represent what it would look like for them to live this out at school. If your kids are older, have a conversation about this at the dinner table.

Discuss: Do you think Paul’s vision of marriage works? Does it make any sense? Do you agree with it? What do you like? What don’t you like? What would you change? Why do you think Paul’s comments to husbands is so much more in depth than his instructions to wives? Women, if your husband treated you the way Paul describes, do you think you would be able to live out 5:22-24? Husbands, what’s stopping you from loving your wives the way Paul describes in 25-33?

Activity: If you’re married, get a babysitter and go on a date this week. It will be a challenge and it will be inconvenient. DO IT ANYWAY! EVEN IF ITS ONLY AN HOUR. If you’re not married, reach out to one of the married couples and offer to babysit.
